We would like to welcome back all the orchestra members after the summer break! I hope that you all had a very enjoyable summer and are ready to join us again for another exciting year ahead.
This term, we are planning a Christmas concert on the 6th December 2015 at 2pm in Whitefriar Street Carmelite Church, Aungier Street.
Our End of Year Concert will take place in the Helix at DCU on 22nd May 2016.
Junior Orchestra – We are working on arranging a concert trip for the Junior orchestra to Wexford School of Music in the new year!
Senior Orchestra – We are planning a concert in Titanic Belfast for the Senior orchestra in the new year!
To enable us to keep the membership fee at the current level (no change since 2008), we need to do some fundraising activity to meet the normal running costs of the Orchestra.
After the success of last year’s pre-Christmas fund raising activities, we again are organising:
1. The Collection of Old Clothes, Shoes and Cuddly Toys 4th Oct 2015 at CICE Rathmines
You have the opportunity to sort through your cupboards and wardrobes and donate any unwanted textiles in the bag provided The items can include adult and children’s clothes, shoes(tied together please) hats , belts, bags and teddies. Please No Duvets, pillows, curtains, bedding, towels or end of life clothing. Please ensure all items are clean. Funds raised from this event will determined by the weight of the items collected. What better way to get rid of any unwanted clothes you won’t wear again or unwanted shoes and Toys. Items must be dropped off before 12 noon on Sunday 4th October 2015.
2. Cake Sale & Cake Raffle – Sunday 8th November 2015 – CICE Rathmines
We are eager again to sample the YOPS Great Bake Off . We would ask that you drop off any cakes, muffins etc and donations no later than 11am. Please remember when leaving in the cakes to leave them in disposable containers.
A big thank you to the parents for their support last year in preparing the refreshments and supervising the students during our breaks. Due to the orchestras growth in numbers, we would greatly appreciate all your support with our fundraising events and monthly supervision requirements.
We would appreciate if every family could volunteer for one of the following tasks for one rehearsal day in the year:
1. helping us SET UP the seating for the orchestras in the morning, where we would appreciate the assistance 2 adults from 9.15 – 9.30am before the students arrive for the rehearsal.
2. helping with the operation of the SNACK BREAKS, where we will need 6 parents for each rehearsal day from 11.00-11.45am to supervise the break from 11.15-11.30am.
In order to organise this roster, we will be emailing you in the next week, details of an online input sheet where you will be able to advise us on line of your availability for roster duty before the 13th September 2015. We will then prepare the Parent Break Roster on the website and a copy will be on display on the notice board at each rehearsal.
During the year if you become unable to fulfill your roster commitment, we would appreciate if you could arrange a swop with another parent between yourselves and let us know.
This year’s membership fee is retained €115 per student and €95 for second family members. This is necessary to cover the insurance, heating and rent of the hall. Fees must be paid by Sunday 13th September 2015. Payment can be made directly before that date to the YOPS Bank Account or by cash or cheque payable to “YOPS” at the first rehearsal on in September. The fee for new members have already been paid when they accepted their place.
We are looking forward to another successful and enjoyable year!
