YOPS Newsflash -All YOPS Activities Postponed this weekend

Hi all YOPS orchestra members,

Due to the severe weather conditions ALL YOPS Rehearsals & Activities this weekend have been postponed.
The Arklow Festival  have contacted us today to advise that all Festival activities this weekend have been postponed and they will advise us when they have been rescheduled.
We will confirm shortly when the normal March orchestra rehearsals will take place.

YOPS Newsletter February 2018

Dear YOPS Member and parent

A reminder that we are having a cake sale at the rehearsal on Sunday 4th February 2018 .

We would ask that you drop off any cakes, muffins etc , at the  start of the rehearsal. Please remember when leaving in the cakes  to leave them in  disposable plates

We would be grateful if you can support this fundraising event.

At the rehearsal on Sunday 4th February 2018,we will be selling the Junior Orchestra Jumper for any member who requires one .Cost €15. This jumper is required for our Concert performance.

Junior Orchestra.

The junior orchestra members will be performing in the Arklow Music Festival which takes place on Sunday 4th March 2018. We have yet to be advised of the performance  time.

It is proposed to hire a coach  to bring the junior orchestra members from  Ranelagh to Arklow and return to Ranelagh.

  • An Extra Rehearsal will take place in Scoil Bhride on Saturday 3rd March 2018 at 2.00-5.00 pm

A charge of €10 will be required to go towards the cost of hiring the coach and a snack in Arklow. Money will be collected at the  rehearsal on Saturday 3rd March 2018.

All Junior orchestra members are expected to attend  the rehearsal on the 4th February 2018 and Saturday 3rd March 2018 .

Orchestra members need to have practised the following pieces to a high standard

  • The Magic Flute
  • Pickin’ and Grinnin’
  • Early one Morning

Orchestra members must also bring their YOPS music folder and a Music Stand (labelled with their name). All cellists must bring their spike holders for the rehearsals and the performance.

  • YOPs jumper
  • white polo shirt with collar
  • Long black skirt & black tights / black trousers. No Jeans
  • Black shoes. No Runners

YOPS Newsletter August 2017


Dear Parent/Guardian/ YOPS member,
We hope you have had an enjoyable break over the summer.

As September approaches we look forward to welcoming you to the new term ahead and with that in mind have attached a list of our rehearsal and concert dates so you can pencil them into your diaries. There are also one or two new developments that I wanted to let you know of.

New Rehearsal Venue: As you will know last year after, 13 years in the Church of Ireland Teacher Training College in Rathmines, the College was closed  and we had to relocate to a new venue at Sandford Park School Ranelagh. Unfortunately last term the school informed us that they were undertaking a major  redevelopment and could no longer facilitate us with the use of their 2 halls.

We have had major difficulty trying to find a similar venue (2 halls) on a Sunday in this area. I am however delighted to let you know that from September the YOPs Orchestra will now be based in Scoil Bhríde, Oakley Road, Ranelagh  just 5 minutes from the Sandford Park School and the Beechwood Luas Stop . The Principal and Board of Management are very supportive of our work and we look forward to making Scoil Bhríde our new rehearsal venue a success  over the coming months.

Entrance is through the school gate from Beechwood Park, at the back of Scoil Bhríde


New Rehearsal Times for each orchestra:

Taking into account Scoil Bhríde’s   one rehearsal hall , we are obliged   to  rearrange our rehearsal times.

YOPS Senior Orchestra rehearsal at 9.30-12.15 pm 

YOPS Junior Orchestra rehearsal  at 1.15 -3.30 pm 

We are very sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause.

This term we are planning an Open Rehearsal  for parents to hear the orchestras perform on Sunday the 3rd’  December 2017 at

Senior YOPS 11.15-12.15 pm

Junior YOPS    2.30- 3.30  pm

Our End of Year Concert will take place in the Civic Theatre Tallaght on the 13th  May 2018.

Parent Rehearsal Roster

A big thank you to the parents for their support last year in preparing the refreshments and supervising the students during our breaks. Due to the Orchestras growth in numbers we would greatly appreciate all your support with our fundraising events and monthly supervision requirements.

I would appreciate if every family could volunteer for one of the following tasks for one rehearsal day in the year

  • To help with the operation of the SNACK BREAKS, we will need 3 parents to set up and supervise the snack breaks
    • Senior YOPS from 10.30-11.15 am
    • Junior YOPS from    00 -2.45 pm

In order to organise this roster, we will be emailing you in the next week, details of an online  Input sheet where you will be able to  advise us on-line of your availability for roster duty  before the 10th September 2017. We will then prepare the Parent Break Roster, put it on our website, and  a copy will be on display on the notice board at each rehearsal.


During the year if you become unable to fulfill your roster commitment, we would appreciate if you could arrange a swap with another parent between yourselves and let us know.

YOPS Music Folders

Students  that returned  their old YOPS music folder will be able to  collect their YOPS folder with the new sheet music from their conductor.

Any student that did not return their YOPS music folder, please bring it along  to the first rehearsal on Sunday 10th September . hand in last years  sheet music to the conductor and collect the new sheet music for 2017-18 and insert it into their  folder for 2017-18

Orchestra Fees

This year’s membership fee is retained €125 per student and €105 for a second family member. This is necessary to cover the insurance, heating and rent of the hall. Fees must be paid by Sunday 10th September 2017. Payment can be made directly before that date to the

Junior YOPS Orchestra Extra Rehearsal Saturday 13th May 2017 2.00-4.00 pm

We have been able to arrange an extra rehearsal for the Junior YOPS Orchestra on Saturday 13th May 2017 in Sandford Park School Ranelagh from 2.00- 4.00 pm. (This rehearsal is only for the Junior Orchestra )

We  feel that the  break from 2nd April 2017 (Rehearsal) to the 14th May 2017  (Concert) is too long  for young players from the last scheduled  rehearsal to the concert performance  to enable them to perform to their full potential .

For new members of the Junior YOPS orchestra we will have the YOPS uniform jumper  on sale on Sunday next 2nd April 2017 at the rehearsal  cost €15

Tickets on Sale at rehearsal 2nd April 2017

We will be selling tickets for the Civic Concert during the rehearsal on the 2nd April 2017. Adults €15 Concessions (Children & Seniors ) €10.

The tickets can also be purchased direct from the Civic  box office on line or by phone  , but will incur an additional booking fee of €1 per ticket.

  • 1.45 pm -YOPS Junior Orchestra
  • 2.30 pm- Stage Clear


  • Chewing Gum is not permitted in the Civic Theatre.
  • Students should bring a packed snack and drink for the pre concert  break
  • A copy of this letter will be posted on the YOPS  web site www.yops-ireland.com if you need to check these arrangements



Please note that the YOPS Music folders must be returned to the YOPS staff after the concert to enable new  music to be included in the folders for the first rehearsal in September

Proposed YOPS Senior Orchestra Concert tour to Madrid 2017

YOPS are proposing to visit Madrid at Easter 2017, and perform two concerts while there. The proposed dates for this tour are as follows: travelling out on Monday 17th April and returning  Thursday 20th. April 2017 (pending flight availability)

For the Tour booking  to go ahead, we need to know the members of the Senior YOPS orchestra who  would be available to travel on this concert tour. It would be most helpful if the orchestra members could indicate their availability to travel on the tour by email kitty@yops-ireland.com by the  24th May 2016, so that we can proceed with making tour arrangements.

Only when the orchestra members and staff have accepted their places , can we  consider offering a parent who have expressed an interest in travelling ,the opportunity to accompany the tour, as the coach size is limited to 50

Details of Tour:

  • Return Aer Lingus flights from Dublin to Madrid
  • 1 piece of checked in baggage (15kgs)
  • Executive coaching throughout tour (within EU Drivers Regulations)
  • 3 nights in the centrally located Hotel Florida Norte, Madrid(****) on a bed and breakfast basis
  • 3 evening meals at your hotel
  • Tour Manager (English speaking – for 8 hours per day)
  • Organisation of 2 concerts
  • 1 day entrance to Parc de Atracciones or Parc Warner Theme Park (subject to opening hours)
  • Guided tour of Madrid
  • Full day Excursion to Segovia
  • Entrance to the Prado Museum (or similar)
  • Tour of Bernabeu Stadium – home of Real Madrid

As the concert locations and times have not yet been confirmed, it has not been possible to finalise the tour itinerary

In addition to the travel agents costs there will be entrance costs to some tourist sites and a mid -day meal. Fundraising between now and March 2017 will be required to meet these costs.

We will forward a booking form by the 30th May 2016 to those who have indicated their availability to travel on the concert tour, and ask them to  return the booking form and a Non-refundable deposit  no later than the 24th. June 2016  The balance of Tour costs will be required  not later than the 15th January 2017
