The Young Orchestral Pops (YOPS) Orchestras were set up in 2002 under the direction of Kitty Dalligan. The orchestra’s repertoire includes Film, Popular and traditional Irish music and well known classics. The orchestras have performed to great acclaim both at home and abroad with performances in Ireland, Poland, the Czech Republic, France, Italy and Spain.
To mark the YOPS 10th Anniversary they recorded a CD ” Concert Favourites” which was released in 2013.
The Junior Orchestra
The Junior Orchestra received first place in the Wesley Music festival in March 2006. In March 2007, they won the Bourke Trophy and first prize at the Arklow Music Festival. They repeated this success in March 2009 by winning both the Bourke Trophy and first prize at the Arklow Music Festival. In 2012 they again won 1st place in the Arklow Music Festival for the third time.The Junior orchestra took part in the Coole Music Orchestra Festival in March 2015 and in May 2016 performed in the County Wexford School of Music’Showcase 2016′ in the National Opera House Wexford
The Senior Orchestra
Concert tours by the Senior Orchestra include a very successful trip to Prague in April 2006 and a well-received tour of Krakow in October 2007. 2011 saw the orchestra travel to Paris and Euro Disney for a series of performances in April 2011. In April 2013 the orchestra travelled to Italy and gave Concert performances in Verona and Lake Garda . In April 2015 the orchestra travelled to Andalucia and gave at concert at the Town Hall in performed two concerts in Malaga and in 2017 they travelled again to Spain and performed two concerts in Madrid. In April 2019 they travelled to Italy and performed concerts in Montecanti Terme and Florence.
The Senior Orchestra performed in the 20th Festival of Youth Orchestras in the National Hall in February 2015 and in March 2016 travelled to Belfast to visit the Titanic
In March 2020 The Senior Orchestra won the first prize in the Youth Orchestra open competition in the Arklow Music Festival
